If you always use the same port to connect to the switch turn on portfast for that port.
Switch#spanning-tree portfast
That will cause the port to enter forwarding state immediately. The 45-50 secs delay you see is STP checking for loops before forwarding begins.
Use with caution though if anything other than a host device is likely to be connected.
