Hey guys,
I am a total newbie to cisco hardware. I need to learn the basic cisco commands.
I have purchased the 1701 adsl router which i need to configure at my home. What do you guys recommend me to do??
Need to take the first step so i learn have to configure my router and take it from there.

Thanks for the links, i am sure they will help me configure my router. I need to learn the commands and what they mean, should i but cisco books or any other advise that would help me with this??

Ok i am really confused, i can terminal into my 1701 router but i don't know where to begin...
How do i set this up so i can configure in web browser for a start??

Can you reply me which version of IOS you have in your Cisco router.
For that you just go to router Terminal.
And type the SHOW VERSION command.

hi Sunny,
first of all let me know which image you are having in your router with the version number. there are two types of images are there one is .bin formated and other is .tar formated. .bin file is only the cisco IOS and when ever we are talking about .tar file then it is having two file one is .html and other is .bin. In .tar form file .bin is Cisco IOS and .html is the webbase file...hop this will help you.
still if you want further help then post the image and cisco ios name...
and when ever you are going to configure Ethernet port using cli you need to use followin comands
1700>enable
1700#conf t
1700(confg)# interface ethernet
sunny here you first check it out which ethernt port you are having ethernet or fastethernet.
1700(conf-if)#ip address A.B.C.D subnetmask
#no shut
