Hello Community,

I am new to the Cisco world and I need a few tips and go to places. I have been trying to figure this out on my own and after one week of clicking around I need help.

I bought a ASA 5505 recently from newegg.com. Comes with ASA version 7.2. I would like to upgrade to version 8.2 but with my current cisco.com user profile I can't download any software. I read somewhere I need a service license to obtain software, is that correct?

Could you help out a newbie how to navigate the Cisco world? Many thanks in advance.

Jurgen

ps: i am trying to host a IIS/SQL server behind the ASA5505 but ACL keeps telling me in the SysLog access denied. but thats topic for another forum

You will need to obtain a smartnet contract on the ASA through a Cisco reseller. Along with being able to obtain possibly the finest tech support on earth you will also have access to Cisco's entire suite of switching, routing, security. Trust me - this is money completely well spent as any issue you may have WILL BE RESOLVED.

great thank you. just bought

Cisco SMARTnet Premium extended service agreement - 1 year

from CDW.com

HI,

Once you have the smartnet contract you can register your devices on cisco.com and then download IOS from IOS upgrade planner and cisco ios navigator tools.
