The fans on the nexus 5548up are stuck at full speed. It is very noisy. In room full of noisy things it is by far the worst. Has anyone found a way to control the fan speed? I'm on NX-OS version 5.2(1)N1(4). I'll try updating to latest 5.2(1)N1(7) when I get a maintenance window over the holidays. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and found a solution.

As far as I know there is no way to control the fan speed , it is usually controlled by temperature sensors and how hot the box is . If it sits in a warm room then it will be on a lot more often .

Hi Andrew,
As stated by Glen, FAN speed is controlled by the temp sensors.
I have observed my N5548's to be noisier as well.
You can check the rotation speed of the fan by "sh env fan det".
From my understanding, it should be in 50's to 60's, however anything above 70's is worth investigation.

Thanks for that command. It shows the fans at 60%. I guess they're just super noisy. The nexus design team should talk to the 2960 design team. Maybe they can work on that.

You ought to hear the nexus 7000's , it's like a jet taking off .

LOL, good to know, although I don't think I'll have to deal with 7000's in my current environment. Hopefully Cisco will hear these complaints and work on the noise level of the nexus line. The Catalyst line has been trending quieter and the newer catalysts have a very low noise level.
I'm not a librarian and I don't expect this class of hardware to be silent, but I think the nexus line is excessively noisy.
