Hi,
I've got a 5624Q that I need to trunk over to a 3850 via 1G SFP fiber for external connectivity. I was told by presales that this could be done using a CVR-QSFP-SFP10G adapter with a GLC-SX-MMD installed into it and another GLC-SX-MMD installed into then 3850.
When I try to configure the port on the 5624Q with a speed 1000, I get the configuration does not match the port capability error.
Any ideas??

Hi Preranda,
Thanks for the info. See that's the thing, the doc you reference above, does show my situation as an acceptable solution.

yes sort of misleading,there might be one or two models out 5600 platform that supports 1Gig transceivers.check the hardware support status with show interface.
the second output I've attached is a 10/40 GEM module again doesn't support 1G. There's a possibility that you may need to convert a group of ports but i highly doubt in this case.
You might want to log a TAC and get a definite answer for this

Thanks for the info. This is what I see on the port with the sho int command;

While waiting around for TAC to get back to me, I discovered the breakout command.
Here's what I was missing. I needed to use the following command;
interface breakout slot 1 port 7-12 map 10g-4x
Then I was able to set the speed on the port to 1000 and insert the CVR-QSFP-SFP10G adapter with a GLC-SX-MMD without incident.

good work..I assume you were able to establish the connectivity to your 3850 after setting to speed to 1000.
here I have N9K-M12PQ GEM which I tried set to 1Gig with the converter "CVR-QSFP-SFP10G" and " GLC-SX-MMD" to just to test out,Had no luck with that .Seems like the architecture it bit different on what you've got there.
I'm glad you've got that going

Hi Preanda,
Yes, I got the link to come up and was able to trunk over to my 3850.
The only unfortunate side effect is I had to waste 5 additional ports on the 5k to make this work - i.e. I had to set all 6 of the ports to 10G instead of just one.
Not a show stopper for me since this is a lab environment, but I wouldn't be happy if I had additional FEX or other reasons to use the native 40g ports.
