Nexus 7000 Series Initial Switch Configuration Questions

Hi all, hope everyone is doing well !!!

I am trying to get a grasp on configuring the management interfaces on the N7K series switches. Unlike the CAT switches, there is a few different management interfaces in the N7K series. I have some questions on each of the interfaces below, hope someone can help clarify.

- Management (Mgmt0) interface, which is the switch management interface. This is like the management Interface VLAN in the CAT series switches or the interface sc0 in the 6509 correct ? this is the interface that you would normally telnet to to make changes or to troubleshot correct ?

- Supervisor management port MGMT ETH. I understand this is a 10/100/1000 ethernet port that provides out-of-band management.Do you connect this port to a modem for out-of-band. I am not quite sure what to connect this port to ? Does the COM1/AUX port serve the same purpose as MGMT ETH port ? Do I need to configure an IP address for the MGMT ETH port ?

- Supervisor CMP (Connectivity Management Processor) MGMT port. This is also a 10/100/1000 ethernet port. I am not quite sure the purpose of this port and don't know what this port connects to. Do I need to configure an IP address for this port ?

- Do you put all management interfaces in the same network but separate from others ?

I've never worked with the N7K series switches and I am trying to get my head around. Thanks all in advance and I appreciate any inputs/suggestions !!!

Mgmt0 and Supervisor MGMT ETH is the same port. This is out of band (OOB) management port it should be connected to a OOB network. You can telnet/ssh to the Nexus via this port. You can also source management traffic from this port (i.e. SNMP, TACACS+, SYSLOG, etc.). You cannot connect any modem into this port, this is ethernet only.

Supervisor CMP MGMT port, is like a on-board console server and yes, you need IP address for this. As long as the SUP has power, this port will be up since it is using different CPU, Memory and software. You can telnet into this port and take over the console from here.

You should connect all these interfaces to OOB.
