Hello, I have a few questions regarding configuring QoS on a nexus 7706 with F3 line cards.
In my 7706 I only have F3 cards.
It's a production system and I do not have a dev device so I am unable to just try some of these commands to verify things for myself.
from interface capabilities:
QOS scheduling: rx-(4q1t),tx-(1p7q1t)
rx-(4q1t),tx-(3p5q1t)
rx-(4q1t),tx-(2p6q1t)
CoS rewrite: yes
ToS rewrite: yes
1) When I do a show class-map type queuing It lists:
class-map type queuing match-any 2q4t-in-q1
... of type 2q4t
class-map type queuing match-any 8q2t-in-q1
... of type 8q2t
class-map type queuing match-any 1p3q4t-out-pq1
... of type 1p3q4t
class-map type queuing match-any 1p7q4t-out-pq1
... of type 1p7q4t
class-map type queuing match-any 8e-4q8q-out-q1
... of type 1p7q1t8e
class-map type queuing match-any 8e-4q8q-in-q1
... of type 4q1t8e
Q:::: Am I correct in assuming that I can use anyone of these queuing class-maps inside a type queuing policy-map (depending on the type network-qos policy-map I have chosen)
Or does it show queuing class-maps that may not be valid for my line card?
Or can I use any of them regardless of the network-qos policy map?
2) When I do a show policy-map type queuing it lists one input and one output policy
policy-map type queuing default-8e-4q8q-in-policy
policy-map type queuing default-8e-4q8q-out-policy
The network-qos policy currently in use is "policy-map type network-qos default-nq-8e-4q8q-policy template 8e-4q8q"
Q:::: If I were to change the network-qos policy to be "policy-map type network-qos default-nq-7e-4q8q-policy template 7e-4q8q", would this generate new 'default' type queuing policy-map's that I could then copy and modify?
I would like to use the type class-maps of type "1p7q4t-out-pq1", we want to have 1 no-drop queue available.
system qos
service-policy type network-qos default-nq-7e-4q8q-policy
exit
Thanks,
Matt

ANSWER: it will show you policy maps that will not work with your line cards.
Q:::: If I were to change the network-qos policy to be "policy-map type network-qos default-nq-7e-4q8q-policy template 7e-4q8q", would this generate new 'default' type queuing policy-map's that I could then copy and modify?
system qos
service-policy type network-qos default-nq-7e-4q8q-policy
exit
ANSWER: When you apply this, new policy maps are generated in the configuration and new default policy is used.
