We have a topology using two nk5 switches with vPC configured and each with a FEX module attached. On these FEX modules we have devices having a single connection to a port on one FEX but find it necessary to configure the corresponding port on the second FEX (non connected) in order to make the connected port active, How do we configure the switches without duplicating the port configuration on an unused port?

If the FEX is connected to both nk5 switches, you need to configure the same exact port and config on both switches in order for the port on the FEX to come up.

Hi Reza
No the FEX modules are connected to one, not both nk5 switches

Hi,
If the FEX is connected to only one switch then you can configure that one switch and it should work.
Can you post the config and the error message?

Is this FEX are singled homed or dual Homed ?
If singled Homed then you going to configure only respected to Parent 5K only
If dual homed, you need to configure both 5K same configuration ( if you have not sync configruation automatically).

The FEXs are single homed. There is an air gap between these production switches and my email service so posting configs or logs is challenging but I notice logging stating the offending VLAN is in error state because the VLAN is not allowed on peer-link (the FEX port is access mode no port channel). There is no VLAN filtering configured on the peer-link

Can you make sure that the vlan is part of the peer-link?

Make sure the VLAN present in the peer link, atleast you can post that particular log.
