Number of ports in a Switch

Hello,

I have a simple question

What is the difference in having many ports in a single switch and having multiple switches with less ports

I can understand the difference, if you have all the ports in one switch you are placing all the eggs in one basket.

There is also cost you have to consider. After a certain number of ports, it is cheaper to have a large chassis switch as opposed to many 24 or 48 port switches.

There are things you can do to minimize the risk of having just one switch such as redundant sups, dual power etc.
