Dear All,
What is the significance of ospf process in ospf routing?

Hi Vishal,
Can you elaborate more on what you're asking?
Thanks,
Subeh

what if we use different process IDs for ospf routing?
suppose we have two rputes to advertise, 10.3.3.0/24 and 192.168.13.0/24.
for the first route we use process 1 and for second route, process 2
r1(config)#router ospf process 1
r1(config-ospf)#network 10.3.3.0 0.0.0.255 are 1
r1(config)#router ospf process 2
r1(config-ospf)#network 192.168.13.0 0.0.0.255 are 1
does this make any difference if take two different process IDs?

Hi,
an OSPF interface can only apply to one of the processes and without a redistribution between the 2 processes the neighbor router will only learn about the links of that single process.
Hope that helps

Vishal,
You can run multiple processes on a router for OSPF but if you expect running one process on the neighbor and learning the routes from both the processes, then that will not happen. One OSPF process can learn routes from only one OSPF process.

ok.
you mean if i configure two process IDs on one router and 1 process ID on the other, they won't communicate?

Vishal,
What i mean is that the remote router with one OSPF instance will be forming neighborship with only one of the OSPF process of your router.

Subeh

Hello
Not unless you redistribute between the two
Process ids are locally significant
