Hello!
I had the same problem and saw a helpful video on YouTube by Cyber Geek. Here's the link:
5.1.1.2 Packet Tracer Adding IoT devices to Smart Homes | usernname/password admin | Problem Fixed!
Summary:
He had an error logging in the home gateway (which I also had and I tried replacing the home gateway device with a new one. It fixed the login problem but no iot devices were being shown).
What he did was go to tablet > Programming tab > Run both com.cisco.mqttbroker and com.cisco.mqttclient
I have version 8 and it worked but I had to save first then reload the file.
Not sure why it's like that, though. If anyone has any idea, please let us know.

If you are not using version 8, try and update, and check if everything is visible then...

Hi,
I had the same problem; using PT 8 could not login with admin/admin to Home Gateway.
Tried with PT 7.3 it worked.
It seems the activity problem had to do with some bug in PT 8?

It says this pkt file is not compatible this version.

It seems, that simple linking lab to the certain PacketTracer version could save a lot of us a lot of problems. The first quiz is also inappropriate in terms of PacketTracer 8 UX. I had to downgrade to 7.3 to make this lab run properly... I expected way more quality from the Cisco...
