Picking Switch

I am looking for the best switch to acomplish the task below.

This is a single office location.  They have an ASA5505 and I am getting a 1040 Standalone AP.  I need a switch that will allow me to creat a VLAN For public wireless Access and a Private wireless access.   So far I have come up with WS-C3560X-24T-S on the cisco web site.  I am guessing there is a cheaper switch than this that will accomplish what I need.  Can you help.

Do you want routing?

Do you want PoE?

GigabitEthernet is a must.

Layer 2 only switches are the 2960/2960S, 2975, 3560 and 3750.

Switches that support routing are 3560 and 3750.

Switches that support PoE and GigabitEthernet to all the ports are2960S, 2975, 3560 and 3750.

Any reason why you choose the 1040 vs 1140?

As you said, there are some subtle differences between the 1140 and the "econo-version", the 1040.  One is the 2 x 3 MIMO that is supported in the 1140 but 1040 only does 2 x 2 MIMO.

Hi

This is what I would do.

Make shure the ASA is a security plus and buy two accesspoints. That way you can have any switch you want on the inside.

1 accesspoint for the public access

1 for the Private access

2960G is a switch that is quite cheap and works nice. I do not know how many ports you need.

I would absolutely use a gigabit switch for the internal use since I presume you will have a server there for file and stuff.

good luck

I do want routing. I did find where I can get the 2960s and you can add up to 16 static routes in it. I could just use a port off the ASA but I really want to plan for implementing a web filtering solution later on and do not want to use the firewall ports to implement the guest wireless access.  I think I answered my own question.

The office is pretty small is the reason I chose the 1040. I have been getting the 1140's and this will be the first time I have ordered a 1040.  I compaired the 1040 and 1140 and really didn't see much difference.  Is there a reason you would use the 1140 over the 1040 in a small office enviornment?
