Hi,
does anybody know if meanwhile there is a possibility to offer automatic failover for pim rpf when using hsrp/vrrp with static routing between two router pairs?
In testlab on a Cat4500 Sup7 we used a multicast static route that generally lets pim rpf work, like described in
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk828/technologies_tech_note09186a0080094aab.shtml
But when the active router fails which is the destination of that mroute entry, pim-sm also fails because there is no automatic routing fail-over to the backup router.
Best Regards,
Thorsten

Try a static mroute for secondary hsrp routers physical ip also and let rpf decide which is best. Or use a routing protocol which would remove any unreacable addresses.

Unfortunately on the sup 7 you can add only one static mroute per destination. A second one with different next hop overwrites the first one. Dynamic routing is not possible in our case because it's planned to be used to connect two different companies.
