I have a situation where I can ping Routers B,C and D which are behind a Cat 5500 but I cant ping the Cat 5500 itself. Now I have checked..there are no ACLs preventing ICMP. Also interesting is that I can ping it through another Router which is acting as the gateway for the Cat 5500. I cant figure it out. Can someone help me with this?

Hi,
The issue could be
1) the ICMP echo request not reaching the switch
2) no routing of the ping source IP in the switch to answer the ping
3) no proper routing back
From what you observe I would assume that your PC and routers B,C and D are in a different VLAN than the management IP of the Cat 5500.
You can check possibility 1) with a traceroute to the switch IP. Where the traceroute times out you have to check for proper routing of source and destination IP of the ping packets.
You can check 2) from the config of the switch: is the default gateway and mask set properly?
3) you can traceroute from the switch to the PC IP addres to see, where it gets stuck and again setup routing properly.
Hope this helps!
Regards, Martin
