Port Channel Configuration Between Nexus and IOS Switch

hogr fatih

Level 1

Hello All
I am new to Nexus and I have issue here hope someone can help:
I have two switches in the network one of them is Cisco IOS C9500 which is a distrbution switch and the other side is cisco Nexus9000 C93240YC. I am trying to configure Port channel between and it shows all the time suspended both side and can't figure it out what is the issue.

I appreciate if you can have any idea what is the issue.

On Nexus Switch:
interface port-channel78
description Distrbution-SW
switchport
switchport mode trunk
switchport trunk native vlan 888
switchport trunk allowed vlan 16,17,401
spanning-tree port type network
mtu 9000
speed 10000

On Cisco IOS:

interface Port-channel78
description Building2-SW
switchport trunk native vlan 888
switchport trunk allowed vlan 16,17,401
switchport mode trunk
switchport nonegotiate
mtu 9000

is the Requirement to have only 1 Port in port-channel or nexus is vPC and you show online one switch site output ?

if only 1 port requirement why not use Trunk rather Port-channel (or you looking to add more ports later)

make sure you have all the VLAN Created both the side, including native VLAN

some time on nexus if only 1 port that will go disable - you can add no lacp suspend-individual

You sure see the Logs what is the reason it was suspended before

How to Ask The Cisco Community for Help

The reason I am having one port right now is beacuse the other port is trunk and running in production can't take it down. I want to bring the port channel up and then add the rest of the port.

all Vlans are created and already passing through trunk port
no lacp suspend-individual: already did this

It shows as suspended - what logs you see on both the devices ?

the message of your show it was down no operational members.

# show interface port-channel 78
port-channel78 is down (No operational members)

I also see some config not correct : one side you have speed setup another side switchport nonegotiate

make sure you have all the VLAN Created both the side, including native VLAN

can you post the output from both the devices : show run interface x/x and show interface x/x , show port-channel X show EtherChannel x summary

what mode of connectivity Ethernet or Fiber ? if Fibre ports used, what SFP and what Fibre used MM or SM ?

suggestion is :

create both side same VLANs  and make consistency config both the side :

shutdown the port-channel

make changes as below both :

switchport trunk native vlan 888
switchport trunk allowed vlan 16,174,401

no shutdown on the port-channel - check also check the logs what information it providing, when go suspended or go as (I) Individual
