Hi.
I am trying to connect to a Cisco 837 by the console port and the only thing that appear in the screen are strange symbols. I restarted the router one or two times and tried to connect the console port in another computer but it didn't work.
The configuration of the HyperTerminal is:
Bits per second: 9600
Data Bits: 8
Parity: No
Stop Bits: 1
Flow Control: No.
A last thing. I put in the console port the ADSL rj11 by a mistake. I don't know if there is any relation.
Thanks for your help.
Kinai.

Try turning flow control to auto and see what happens. You could also try a different cable (unless you know this one works), try different port speeds, etc.

The port speed is set as something other than 9600 , you are going to have to runn thru all the speeds in increments of 9600 until you get a readable output . Someone may have had to xmodem in a image and increased the console port speed. If you get it to work check the config register , should be 0x2102.
