Port forwarding/redirect question

Wondering if anyone can help me out here.

My server admin has asked me to redirect any port 443 traffic that is destined to one server to go to another server that is on the same VLAN. The servers themselves are on a separate VLAN from the rest of the network. I thought that I may be able to do this with NAT, but I'm really not clear on how that would work.

Thanks.

Hi,

It depends where the source traffic is coming from. If they have to pass through a firewall or router to get to this server VLAN, then you can use NAT to translate the destination IP.

If you're talking about going from one VLAN to another that is only going through a layer 3 switch via inter-VLAN routing, you won't be able to do it (unless someone can correct me here).

Can you provide more information about the network topology and what problem the server admin is trying to solve by doing this?

Regards,

Tim
