Port Spanning Configuration Question

This is probably far too basic a question, but I having a hard time finding an answer.  Can you configure a spanning session from a lesser speed interface to a greater speed interface?  We have two 6509's configured with VSS in our DC and there are 10Gb fiber interfaces which connect to HP Flex-10 switches that are in our blade chassis.  Our server guy wants to do a packet capture of that traffic, but needs to run it from his laptop which would connect via a 1Gb copper interface on the 6509.  Is this possible?  Is there an easier way to do this?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

Conceptually, it is possible to configure the port spanning the way you have

described. However, the results may not be as you would have expected. If

the traffic passing through that interface is beyond a Gig per second, then

you may not see everything on your destination port. Other than that, it

should work fine.

Yes, it's possible.

You may have packet drops if the aggegate speed of all SPAN source ports is greater than the SPAN destination port but it's definitely doable.
