We purchased 6 Catalyst 2960 edge switches and they are all in production. Sometimes when computers bootup they don't have all the network drives mapped using a login script. I think it might be due to the computers are not getting a dhcp address in time. How can i tell if portfast is turned on for the edge switches or is it on by default?
Any help will be greatly appreciated?
Thanks,
Lake

I suspect it is a portfast issue as you describe.
To check simply do a "sh run" on the switch and see if "spanning-tree portfast" is under the interface configurations.
Edit - forgot to say you can also enable it globally so if it's not on interfaces check for "spanning-tree portfast default" in your running config.

Just to be sure on all user interfaces use the interface range command and enter the " switchport host" command.

It becomes the default for all non-trunk ports (as you've written).
". . . i need to exclude a couple etherchannel ports."
The global default can per overridden per port. Something like no spanning-tree portfast on the interface (I'm sure there's a command, not positive if this is the correct syntax and I'm not at a switch to check).

Portfast was enabled. I did not configure it maunally. I guess it is the default setting. Might be a Windows issue.

I just noticed that portfast is not enabled on all the edge switches. It is only enabled on POE switches but not on the other switches. Can someone please tell me the command to enable portfast globally?
Thanks,
Lake
