Hi,
I have a LAP-1142 connected to one of our PoE blade in our 4506 switch, it used to work fine with the following power consumption:
Interface Admin Oper Power(Watts) Device Class
From PS To Device
--------- ------ ---------- ---------- ---------- ------------------- -----
Gi4/3 auto on 21.5 20.0 AIR-AP1252AG-A-K9 3
However, we had power issue on Apr 28, so it failed and we saw from the log below:
Apr 28 13:57:38.990: %C4K_ETHPORTMAN-3-INLINEPOWEROVERDRAWN: Inline powered device connected on port Gi4/3 exceeded its hardware protection threshold.
Apr 28 13:57:39.694: %PM-4-ERR_DISABLE: inline-power error detected on Gi4/3, putting Gi4/3 in err-disable state
After the power restored later, the other LAP connecting with the same blade restored without any problem, except this one:
Interface Admin Oper Power(Watts) Device Class
From PS To Device
--------- ------ ---------- ---------- ---------- ------------------- -----
Gi4/3 auto on 16.6 15.4 Ieee PD 3
We have tried to shutdown & restart the port but it doesn't help.
What may be the cause for this? LAP failed or port failed?
Thanks in advance for any helpful advise.
Regards,
Sunny

The first step is to run the command "show power inline" to identify where things are at right now.
What you want to identify is where the inbalance is.
It may be that another PoE, or a combination of other PoEs, are using more power than is set for max or is available. it could also be that this particular connection is using so much that it exceeds the limit.
Depending on your problem the solution will vary.
Here is a link to help you out.
I know it isn't for your exact model, but the commands will be the same to set limits and whatnot.
(edit)
I missed your previous show power inline entry.
Your over the wattage max for that port. You can just increase the limit with "power inline port maximum 17000". The 15.4 is the standard default, from memory, and that should resolve your issue. BTW that command is an configure interface command.

Hi Ryan,
Thank you for your reply. However it still doesn't correct the picture.
Here I show you more info:

And i cannot increase the max. power allowed on the port, the only available comment is:

4506(config)#pow inl con ?

<4000-15400> milli-watts
The switch is 4506E with IOS 12.2(50)SG3, I think it should not be related but just listed here also.
I don't know why only these 2 APs are not restored after power resumed but OK for the rest. It doesn't look like there is over-powered as I still have remaining power available shown. Any further idea you may have?
Thanks again.
Rgds,
Sunny

The 1140 is designed to receive a maximum power of 20.0 w but is capable of operating 15.4w. You should be fine.

Hi Leolaohoo,
Thanks for your reply. But the problem is the AP is not UP and the interface showing DISCONNECT even though it's having 15.4W power from the PoE blade.

This is a very wierd case. I had a look at your first post and I saw the line "putting Gi4/3 in err-disable state". Have you tried to enable/disable state? What is the result when you do a "sh int statu err"? Can you run a "test cable tdr int Gi4/3"? Wait for a few seconds and replace "test" with "show" and post the result.
05-10-2010 08:21 AM
I tried to "sh int status err"; "test cable tdr int g4/3"; and then "sh cable tdr int g4/3", none of them have anything being shown.
The strange thing is that I cannot see any power being drawn on "int g4/3", that i used to see
"Gi4/3 auto on 16.6 15.4 Ieee PD 3"
Now it's "Gi4/3 auto off 0.0 0.0 n/a n/a "
I dont think the AP1252 havve been unplugged, but I have to check.
Thanks.

During the power incident, CDP probably became disabled on this AP.

I'm experiencing the exact same probelm... What was the fix?
11-09-2011 07:26 AM
The fix for my problem was replacing the blade. Problem solved.
11-22-2011 07:06 AM
I found what I beleive is a work around for this issue; try " power inline static " command for the interface that is having the issue.
11-22-2011 09:18 AM
My resolution is the same as Cehill - RMA the blade and replace it with a new blade, problem solved.
