Problem with intermittent network dropouts

Hi there, I have a problem with the network connection dropping out for 2 minutes at a time, a couple of times a week, for random users.

I've noticed that if I remove all port security on the switch then this doesn't seem to happen.

Ports are normally setup as follows: -

interface GigabitEthernet1/0/01
switchport access vlan 40
switchport mode access
switchport port-security maximum 2
switchport port-security violation protect
switchport port-security aging time 1
switchport port-security
no macro auto processing
spanning-tree portfast edge

Is there a problem with the port security setting there? I'd like to protect myself from users plugged in their own switches and wireless access points, so I'd rather not completely remove the security.

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

check if your device supports the command:

switchport port-security aging type inactivity

and if so, add that to your interface configuration and check if it makes a difference.

Thanks, I'll give that a go. Why might it help? The dropouts occur when the computers are in use and not inactive.

What device model is this ? Is this an SG switch ?

It's a Cisco 2960X 48 port switch.

I haven't check the logs - let me get on that.

Hello,

could be a bug. Is this a standalone or a stacked switch ?

Which IOS are you running (with release 12.2.55-SE12 MD being the recommended release) ?
