I've been using many Catalyst WSC2960-24-TCS switches with GLC-GE-100FX SFP modules in our company automation networks for several years with no issues. recently I've had to replace an SFP and install several new switches with SFP's, and on each occasion the SFP modules won't work - it flashes for a second then causes the port to be disabled. On investigation I've found that although the part numbers are both GLC_GE_100FX, there is a second number underneath. Those with the number 10-2019-01 work fine, but those with number 800-23859-01 don't work. I've tried upgrading the Catalyst firm to the lastest version but swtill with the same results. Has anyone else came across this or can offer any information about the differing part numbers?

There are occasionally a series of Cisco Field Notices identifying incompatible SFPs and Cisco switch Products; check the WS2960 page.
Also, the Cisco SFP matrix often lists specific SFP hardware version numbers (v01, v02, v03) as minimum compatibility requirements --- https://tmgmatrix.cisco.com/
Hopefully during the last 10 years, you've upgraded to the Cisco IE-9300 switch platform >:}
