Recovering after a Factory Reset on a C9300-24UX-E

Hello,

After giving up on trying to get this or any C9300 (I have tried on 3) to go into configuration and trying everything posted here in the forum.   I decided to try loading the IOS  FUJI 16.9.3 firmware and performed a factory reset all according to this document.

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst9300/software/release/16-9/configuration_guide/sys_mgmt/b_169_sys_mgmt_9300_cg/simplified_factory_reset.pdf

I am not trying to figure out how to reinstall the iOS image from the switch: prompt.   I may have missed it, but I could not find a good article on this.

I did not save any of the previous config, as I want to start completely clean.   I do have IOS Fuji 16.9.3 image on a USB Key and I have also copied it onto flash:

Any pointers will be greatly appreciated.

THx

Bryan

I don't there is no order way to install an image other than through the CLI.

Here is an article how to perform a software install, https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst9300/software/release/16-9/configuration_guide/sys_mgmt/b_169_sys_mgmt_9300_cg/performing_setup_configuration.html?bookSearch=true

Thank you,  I am working through the document.   I was able to boot to the bin file into bundle mode.   I need to figure out how to flip over to booting in install mode.   I probably will have additional questions.

Thx

Bryan

if you have a copy of the image on an usb drive plug it into the front usb port

and modify you  bin image file to match.

switch:   boot usbflash0:cat9k_iosxe.16.09.05.SPA.bin

this loaded my specific image as I accidently did a factory reset all to my 9300 48 port.

Firt copy the ios in USB Stick and connect to Usb port of the Switch. then follow below steps

dir usbflash0:

Switch# copy usbflash0:cat9k_iosxe.16.06.03.SPA.bin flash:

Install the software.

Switch# request platform software package install switch all file flash:cat9k_iosxe.16.06.03.SPA.bin auto-copy

Restart the switch

Switch# reload

Verification once it reloaded :

Switch# Show version | include install

Recovering from a Software Failure
Before you begin
This recovery procedure requires that you have physical access to the switch.

This procedure uses boot loader commands and TFTP to recover from a corrupted or incorrect image file.

Procedure
Step 1
From your PC, download the software image file (image.bin ) from Cisco.com.

Step 2
Load the software image to your TFTP server.

Step 3
Connect your PC to the switch Ethernet management port.

Step 4
Unplug the switch power cord.

Step 5
Press the Mode button, and at the same time, reconnect the power cord to the switch.

Example:
Last reset cause: SoftwareResetTrig
C9400-SUP-1 platform with 16777216 Kbytes of main memory

Preparing to autoboot. [Press Ctrl-C to interrupt] 3 (interrupted)
switch:
switch:
Step 6
From the bootloader (ROMMON) prompt, ensure that you can ping your TFTP server.

Set switch IP address: set IP_ADDRESS ip_address

Example:
switch: set IP_ADDRESS 192.0.2.123

Set switch subnet mask: set IP_SUBNET_MASK subnet_mask

Example:
switch: set IP_SUBNET_MASK 255.255.255.0

Set default gateway: set DEFAULT_GATEWAY ip_address

Example:
switch: set DEFAULT_GATEWAY 192.0.2.1

Verify that you can ping the TFTP server switch: ping ip_address_of_TFTP_server

Example:
switch: ping 192.0.2.15
ping 192.0.2.1 with 32 bytes of data...
Host 192.0.2.1 is alive.
switch:

Step 7
Verify that you have a recovery image in your recovery partition (sda9:).

This recovery image is required for recovery using the emergency-install feature.

Example:

switch: dir sda9:
Directory of sda9:/

2 drwx 1024 .
2 drwx 1024 ..
11 -rw- 18923068 c3850-recovery.bin

36939776 bytes available (20830208 bytes used)
switch:

Step 8
From the bootloader (ROMMON) prompt, initiate the emergency-install feature that assists you in recovering the software image on your switch.

WARNING: The emergency install command will erase your entire boot flash!

Alternatively, you can copy the image from TFTP to local flash through Telnet or Management port and then boot the device from local flash.
