Hi, I would like to factory default setting for 6 stack 2960X switches.
1. By providing "wr erase" on master stack, is it remove on other stack switch also?

2. Is it require to delete vlan.dat and config.text file before "wr erase"?

3. Do I need to renumber individually by login to them after removing stack cable?

4. no switch <no> provisioned command need to issue on master ?

Thanks,

Dhaval

While the stack is still powered up, issue the command "wr erase".
While the stack is still powered up, remove all the stacking cable.
Delete the vlan.dat file.
Issue the command "switch X priority 1".  Do not save the config.
Issue the command "switch X renumber 1".  Do not save the config.
Power down the switches.

Thanks Leo,

Just repeat steps for my clarity and share one query to understand..

1. While all switches are in stack and powered up,  issue the command "wr erase".

2. While all switches are in stack and powered up,  remove all the stacking cable.

  • Here I have query, Once we remove all stacking cable, How can I delete vlan.dat and change switch priority & renumber all other switches except master one?
  • Do I need to take console separately and do that?

3. Delete the vlan.dat file.

4. Issue the command "switch X priority 1".  Do not save the config.
5. Issue the command "switch X renumber 1".  Do not save the config.
6. Power down the switches.

Thanks,

Dhaval

Console in one-by-one.

Alternatively, one can say "delete flash6:vlan.dat", remove the priority and renumber.

It all depends on the operator.

I do everything (delete the VLAN.dat file, erase the config, renumber and priority) before I remove the stacking cable.  Like I said, it depends on the operator.

I do in favor of clear everything (delete the VLAN.dat file, delete config.text, delete config.text.backup, renumber and priority)
But Can we renumber all switches as 1 and change priority to 1 while all are still in stack ?

Hi Leo,

Sharing final sequence for verification. Could you pls confirm.

1. delete vlan.dat, config.text, config.text.backup from all switch flash.

2. change switches priority to 1

3. Renumber all switches to 1

4. wr erase

5. reload

6. Power Off

7. Remove stack cables.

Thanks,

Dhaval

Do not reload.  Reload and the switches will join the stack.

After erasing the config, power down the entire stack.
