Replace a Supervisor Module for Catalyst 6500 VSS 1440

Hi,

This VSS system in Question is Quad Sup.

  1. As active Sup have issue, a failover has to be conducted before replacement . What to expect after failover in Quad SUP VSS set up will there be any minor / transient traffic impact for Switch 1 . Detailed impact  and verification plan have to be included post failover is completed to ensure Switch 2 has taken all services successfully.

  1. After switchover the current Sup having issue will be reseating automatically . If the errors are gone and ports comes up and errors are gone , activity stops here and monitor

  1. If the SUP fails to reboot error free in Step 2 , then replacement will proceed . Please advise if the same steps need to be followed for Quad Sup Scenario .

Thank you.

This questions sounds like Change Control Board (CCB) is asking questions directed at the network team but the network team is not familiar with the system.

It is totally irresponsible for anyone to answer this question because nobody outside of this network knows anything about the network.

Get Cisco TAC or get a reputable system integrator.

What error?

What Step 2?  Where is Step 1?

Yeah, nah Mate.  I'm going down hard on this thread because a quad Sup is no laughing matter.  If the person cannot even cut-n-paste properly and correctly, what are the chances that useful information will be forthcoming?

Hi,

First of all apologies for the error message and below are the brief explanation on this issue:

current situation - system running on quad SUP VSS . Primary Active SUP primary of Primary chassis is having error as below:

Impact :  2 VSL link out of 4 were flapping very badly and we have shut them down

Kindly advise if the same steps as Dual SUP VSS for Quad SUP VSS.

Thank you.

We have a Quad SUP VSS and we are seeing sudden Minor error in the Active SUP of Switch 1 . We would like to replace the Swich 1 SUP slot 6  . the TenG interfaces which are part of VSL on SUP slot 6 are not coming UP after the minor error appeared  and after that Swich 1 slot 5 SUP TenG ports are acting as VSL links . currently we have shut the TenGig  ports of Switch 1 Sup slot6 as its was flapping every secs . So due to this the Active SUP currently have no ports connected to VSL

What will be the best way to replace the Active Sup without any traffic interruption

Please advise what step should be take to for 0 traffic impact during replacement of Active SUP

If we have to swchover what will be the roles of the SUP in both switch after switchover is performed

Will there be any traffic impact during switchover .

Which chassis and  SUP will be elected as Active and Standby HOT after switchover

Please suggest the steps and initial config that need to be done on the new supervisor for slot 6  if we want to replace the SUP. Or its enough to match the IOS only and insert the SUP and the rest everything will be done automatically

To upgrade also answers to these is required . As the first the SUP need to be replaced . after that we will consider upgrade is required

What will be the best way to replace the Active Sup without any traffic interruption

Please advise what step should be take to for 0 traffic impact during replacement of Active SUP

If we have to swichover

Will there be any traffic impact during switchover .

Will the chassis one will reboot completely after swichover with all Line cards

Please suggest the steps and initial config (if any)  that need to be done for replacement supervisor  for Swich 1 slot 6   if we want to replace the SUP.

Is it enough to match the IOS only and insert the SUP and the rest everything will be done automatically or have to do any initial steps
