replacing 3560e core with 6509e

we are looking to upgrade our core from 3560e to 6509e, whats the best way to do this.

is it as simple as copy and paste config from 3560e to 6509, and make sure ports are mapped correctly.. 

at the moment 3560 is connected to a few other 3560 poe switches, we can move them all into the 6509. what things should i lookout for.

Depends on how complicated your configuration is.

A lot of the basic L2 and L3 configuration is going to be the same eg. vlans, SVIs, routing protocols etc.

However if you have additional things especially things like QOS then this will not copy across and you are in for a lot of reading :)

Yes you can move the other switches to the 6500 and assuming all routing between vlans is being done on our current 3560 then there is not a lot of difference ie. just trunk connections between the switches will do it.

Difficult to say more without knowing the current configuration but there are always the configuration guides if you get stuck or just post back here.

have some qos,, statments.. at the moment inter vlan routing is not done by the 3560, however i plan to have it done by the 6509.

It's been quite some time since I did QOS on the 6500 and it depends on your supervisor and IOS version but I doubt those commands will just copy across.

In addition different modules on the 6500 have different QOS capabilities.

Not trying to make it hard but you may well have to look at the relevant 6500 configuration guides and the specs for the modules you are using to understand what queues are supported and how you configure them.

There may be others who have more recent experience with QOS on that platform.

Ditto to what Jon's wrote, 6500 QoS is dependent on supervisor model and line card models.  6500 is "different" from 3560E QoS, and unlikely you'll be able to exactly match it.

(Actually, how you really want to approach QoS, is define your logical QoS model, and then determine how close you can get a particular device to implement it.)

Not to state the obvious but the 6500 no longer supports PoE line cards. Are you planning to use 6800ia switches or older supervisors and line cards or do the phones have power cubes or do you plan to migrate the phones to a different PoE switch?
