RV345 routing, why does cisco do nothing?

ferdinando.alde

Level 1

I wonder if Cisco exists for small routers or is interested only in the assistance of big ones.

They have in production a router that does not work and it seems that those who bought it are abandoned with an unusable "piece of iron". Which, however, was paid based on the specifics of operation.
Seen from the customer's side, it looks like a scam. Truly incredible.

The flaw is the lack of return from static routes ... it does not seem to me a marginal problem, but a real firmware defect.

And no solution news can be read.
What should I do? Change producer hoping for greater seriousness?
And throw away the RV345P ......

Hi Paul,

I'm trying to connect in a very simple way:

\\192.168.132.100 <>

no more. To have the ability to transfer files.

This connection is from my country house to my office (and to my home in
Milano), so I can work.

Hi paul,

more . if I connect to the static IP of the WAN to access the port of a
surveillance camera, I do not get back any image. With RV325 it works.

The configuration is the same, only replaced the router.

Hello
Don’t get to hold up on the configuration is the same - as you have said it is a different router - although you would expect it to work in the end it is a different device - iOS etc,,,

It could be a bug-ios related but troubleshooting is the best way

Paul, of course, is a different device but I have reproduced exactly the
same configuration, it is not impossible, because the WAN addresses are the
same, the DHCP has the same parameters, the forwarding of the ports is the
same as the static routes .

Also I have an IPsec VPN that works.

Everything also worked on an Ubiquity device (not the IPsec VPN).

Consider that I have the same setup on a RV130 at home in Milan and also an
RV320 in the office in Milan and only this RV345P does not work. In your
opinion, what does it depend on? I can not have doubts! And, even if I mount
an RV325 here I see that there are no problems, I still have no doubt that
the RV345P is a router that does NOT work. Maybe it's too new, or it's been
badly designed and not checked, or it's broken ... but this last hypothesis
seems unlikely.

Yes. Paul you are right, but the the basic functions of a router must be
respected, and the static routes are certainly not an option. I ask only
this, nothing special. Or it's a ..... (what do you suggest?), Not a router.

Hello,

just a thought: the Open VPN server dishes out IP addresses to your clients, which ones are those ? Are your clients getting their 'normal', that is, non-VPN IP addresses, from the RV345 ?

Also, for the static route, I assume you use VLAN1 as the interface ?

On the RV345, under Status and Statistics > TCP/IP Services --> Port Listen Status, can you see what port is used for the Open VPN connection ?

Hi Georg,

the OpenVPN is fully managed by the NUC and the RV345 only knows the address
of the NUC. If in the laptop (192.168.12.100) fixed a route like:

192.168.132.0 mask 255.255.255.0 192.168.12.12

everything works. But if I have to set up permanent routes on every device
then the router is useless.

Yes, I only use VLAN1

Hello
Interesting to see a debug from the router to/from this server whilst your trying to connect and also a wireshark capture also from your pc - Can you apply one?

what ports are open on this server - have you also tested telneting to that server on a specific port ?

Hi Paul,

at this moment I can not produce any debugging of the RV345 because it is
only resting above the rack, in its place there is an RV325. Work must go
on.

And I'm coming back to Milan until next Thursday.

I have attached the list of ports ..... even in this case does not return
the content.

And this is the other problem, which I recognized later.

Everything works with the RV325 and the RV130 (in Milan).

I'm afraid I chose the wrong router for my network, I was attracted by
promised performance and the presence of the POE that simplifies rack
wiring.

Hello

Okay I’ll check the attachment but in the interim - confirm
You saying apart from icmp no telnet session activated to any open port on the server doesn’t respond?

Also can you verify?

1) you have the correct statics both on the router and server applied

2) The interconnecting switch doesn't have ip routing enable (only applicable for L3 switch’s)

3)your pc/server have no ghost arp or static route entries -(clearing arp cache - route table)

their nics are enabled for NetBIOS over tcp/ip

No static host/lmhost entries exist on the server and pc

Hello,

I read through the user guides for both models to check for differences. On the RV325, the device can be in one of two modes, Gateway Mode or Router Mode. Can you check which one yours is set to ?

System Information --> Working Mode

Hello
That’s a very good point Georg
I think it has been asked but not sure it was actually validated !

It may well be just a simple as the mode the router is running! - kudos

Hi Georg, Hi Paul,

a comprehensive answer to all the questions. About 70 miles far from the router (a Milano)

The RV325 is in gateway mode.

The Netbios is activated in the TCP

The switch is that of the router

The PC has no ghost routes (there was a route print between the attachments)

The static parts of the network are correct, otherwise the RV325 would not
work either

The unresponsive port (5000-5001) belongs to a Sinology NAS and with the
RV325 it works.

If, on the other hand, I use an RDP port (3389) for an application that
resides on the NUC (Remote Desktop) it works great as there is no transfer
via the LAN

Nando

For the static route on the RV325, which interface are you selecting ?

The LAN interface. I put a snapshot.
