SFP compatibility Cisco 3850 10G slot

Can I use a GLC-SX-MMD in a slot on a C3850-NM-4-10G?

I currently use the GLC-SX-MMD SFP module in a 2960x.  However, I recently was able to free up a couple of ports in the 3850 and I would like to move that SFP to the 3850 to provide the uplink instead.  I removed the 10G SFP+ that was in the slot on the and inserts the GLC-SX-MMD, but the SFP never shows up (not seen as inserted in log, and not seen in show transceiver detail on the interface to which it is plugged in.  I reverted to the 2960x and the SFP and link works just fine.

Can anyone tell me if there might be a compatibility issue with GLC-SX-MMD and C3850-NM-4-10G?

Thanks.

@noelciscoman hi, glc-sx-mmd is compatible with that module. https://tmgmatrix.cisco.com/?npid=407

try different ports in module and check logs to identify if SFP detected. Also try different SFPs if available. also check below commands,

#sh inventory

after plugin. and check console logs (if you are using SSH to device, then enable monitoring with #ter mon command)

Please rate this and mark as solution/answer, if this resolved your issue
Good luck

Thanks.  I will try again.  I was watching from terminal and when I removed the 10G module that is not being used, I saw the log reflect the 10G SFP+ was removed.  However, when I insert the 1G module in the same slot, there is nothing in the log.  Thanks for confirming the compatibly.

Hi

It should support with IOS XE 16.1.1.

What type of 3850 do you have? See below:

The C3850-NM-4-10G module is supported only on the 48-port Gigabit Ethernet models or on the 12-port or higher 10 Gigabit Ethernet models. The C3850-NM-8x10G and C3850-NM-2x40G modules are supported on the 24-port and 48-port multigigabit switches and also on the 24-port 10G SFP+ switch model. The C3850-NM-4-1G and C3850-NM-2-10G modules are not supported on the 12-port and 24-port SFP+ models.

The module works.  I have other links active on it.

te2/1/2 should have the same module as te2/1/2 at the moment.  They were both seen until I swapped in a 1 gig module to te2/1/2 to accommodate different needs.  The 1 gig module was not seen, and now the 10g module is not seen (it was before it was taken out.  I am guessing a reload would resolve, but I am not in a position to do that.  I could jsut reseat the C3850-NM-4-10G, I suppose.  I might have a window for that...if that has a chance of correcting the issue.
