SFP port on Catalyst 2960 S

I have Catalyst 2960 S (WS-C2960S-48FPS-L) Switch. I have plugged in SFP module but still interface is down and line protocol down. Is there any configuration to enable SFP module and make the interface up?

This port is connected to nexus 5 k.

are you having to go through fiber junction boxes to get from the 2960 to the nexus? if so - are jumpering through with st-st and st-lc? if so - maybe try swapping the st's on the fiber junction box (if you are using st's)...

The only configuration required to enable the SFP on a 2960S is to "no shut" the port. Are you certain the interface on the N5K has been configured correctly? Nexus switches will not link unless the speed on the port is set properly, "speed 1000" in this case.

Beyond that I would check to ensure the SFPs are the correct type on both sides and check the fiber (or copper?) used to connect them.

thanks for your timely reply and i found the problem... its the problem of fiber patch pannel... which is in between the 5k and 2960 switch. becouse of the fiber patch cored the tx of 5k is coming to the tx of the 2960, nd rx of 5k to rx of 2960 ... its make the issue. i swiped the cables on both side of the fiber patch cord. and its got up ... any ways thanks for the time spend for me guys...

There is no configuration needed as long as the interfaces are not shut.  If you think the cable is good and you have the correct optics matching the cable, you can try swapping the strands on one side of the cable and test again.

you are right ... after swiping strands on one side of the cable its got up.... actulally in between the 5k and 2960 switch theris fiber patch pannel ... dats make the trouble.... any way thanks alot for the tip.... thank u very much....

Depending on the N5k variant you use check if the interface is 1 gig capable (Nexus 5020 e1/1-16) and the nx-os supports it (Nexus 5548 >5.0(3)
