I am brand new to Cisco, My apologies for the newbie questions.

My switch is running Firmware 1.1.2.0 and I want to upgrade it. I have downloaded both 1.4.1.03 and 1.4.11.5. When I attempt to update the firmware, I am using

Administration

File Management

Upgrade/Backup Firmware/Language

I get: Error Message:    Copy: Illegal software format

The download link i am using is: https://software.cisco.com/download/home/283771822/type/282463182/release/1.4.11.5

What am I missing? What am I doing wrong?

Hello,

are you starting from a pre 1.3.7.18 version ?

Upgrade to this version first, then to the 1.4 version...

Hello,

--> Before upgrading to the latest version from a version prior to 1.3.5, you first need to upgrade the device image to image version 1.3.5 or 1.3.7 and the latest boot file (1.4.0.x). After the device is upgraded to 1.3.5/1.3.7 and to the latest boot file (1.4.0.x), you can upgrade the device to version 1.4.

With your help, I have been able to upgrade the Boot Image. When I attempt to upgrade the Firmware, I still get an error message saying: illegal software format. I am trying both of the 1.4 Firmware files with the file extension .ros

Hello,

I read through the instructions, and it talks about a ZIP file that contains two files. The 1.4.11.x version does not have a ZIP file, the 1.4.1.03 version does. I would try to use this (I attached the ZIP file, and if successful, use the .ros file of the 1.4.11 version to upgrade).

I tried using the zip file as well as the two different .ros files. They
are 1.4.1.3 and.1.4.11.5. I received an illegal software format error
on all 3 attempts

The switch is currently running 1.1.2.0 with a boot version of 1.3.5.06. According to the Cisco Download page, there is no firmware between 1.1.2.0 and 1.4.1.03. See page: https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/switches/sg200-26-26-port-gigabit-smart-switch/model.html#~tab-downloads
