SG300 - Interface error

Working with an SG300-52P.

I have a device that when connected, the interface blinks 4-5 times green very quickly then stops. It does this a number of times before eventually staying up. Then, a portion of my switching network loses WAN access.

Before I start digging, anyone have an experienced place to start?

Hi there,

What is the IP of the device being connected? At first glance this sounds like a case of a duplicate IP address which matches the subnet gateway.

cheers,

Seb.

I had initially plugged the device (a non Windows/Mac... possibly a custom Unix-Linux GUI) and let it pull DHCP.. which it did and i then set the address it pulled as a reservation.

I just set a static IP on the device as well and noted that the series of only green blinks and nothing continued at least 10 times, but the port never came up in that time. I could have left it longer, but I was worried about disrupting too much work here. The amber light never blinks fyi.

Should I move to set that interface speed and modes manually next? start low?

If it managed to obtain a DHCP lease then the switchport config is fine regarding speed/ duplex.

When you say it disrupts WAN access. Does it just disrupt some users, or the entire local subnet?

Could you place the device in a separate VLAN and have the SG300 route traffic to it as required?

cheers,

Seb.
