Forum,
Yesterday i performed the "install add file" command on my 9300 switch.
Once i was done with the command, i performed the "show install inactive" command and received the following results:
0159300STK01#sho install in
[ Switch 1 2 ] Inactive Package(s) Information:
State (St): I - Inactive, U - Activated & Uncommitted,
C - Activated & Committed, D - Deactivated & Uncommitted
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Type St Filename/Version
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
IMG I 16.9.5.0
IMG I
I dont understand what the 2nd line below the 16.9.5 image is for, and want to ensure it wont cause any problems when i perform the "install activate" command later this evening.
What is the 2nd line?
Thank You,
Kevin Melton

So, the output is showing IMG I 16.9.5.0 as inactive and the second line is basically nothing (no other inactive image). If you issue "sh inst ac", you should only see the current active image that running on the switch and nothing else. So, the second line is nothing to worry about.

After Upgrade have you rebooted the device ? and Live with new IOS now ?
in that case you can safely remove inactive images from the device.
Also check dir will show you any IOS in the flash, which is not required.
EDIT : (i see some IOS still in the flash in my device- not able to pull some information) - not sure why ?
I have checked Live device running last few months : i see the same output :
#show install inactive
[ Switch 1 2 ] Inactive Package(s) Information:
State (St): I - Inactive, U - Activated & Uncommitted,
C - Activated & Committed, D - Deactivated & Uncommitted
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Type St Filename/Version
