%SIF_MGR-1-FAULTY_CABLE: Switch 1 R0/0: sif_mgr: High hardware interru

Hello everyone,

In a remote office, I replaced the rack with 2 new C9200L-48P-4G switches (installed version: Cupertino 17.9.5 (MD), the latest available).

We already have many Catalyst 9200 switches in production with this release, but only on this new stack do I see this error in the log, repeated approximately every 5 minutes:

Oct 21 11:53:31.956 CEST: %SIF_MGR-1-FAULTY_CABLE: Switch 1 R0/0: sif_mgr: High hardware interrupt seen on switch 1
Oct 21 11:58:31.962 CEST: %SIF_MGR-1-FAULTY_CABLE: Switch 1 R0/0: sif_mgr: High hardware interrupt seen on switch 1
Oct 21 12:03:31.961 CEST: %SIF_MGR-1-FAULTY_CABLE: Switch 1 R0/0: sif_mgr: High hardware interrupt seen on switch 1
Oct 21 12:08:31.974 CEST: %SIF_MGR-1-FAULTY_CABLE: Switch 1 R0/0: sif_mgr: High hardware interrupt seen on switch 1

I was considering reinstalling the operating system or downgrading to version 17.9.4 and possibly redoing the upgrade. However, these switches are in production, so I need to plan the activity in advance.

Has anyone encountered this problem before? If so, did you resolve it another way?

Thanks
Alessandro

Thanks Leo,

I saw this thread, just for clarification, but do you mean to go back to 17.9.4 and reinstall 17.9.5? Or is there another faster way?

Neither.

We dumped 17.9.X because it is a train wreck.  Instead, we are migrating to 17.12.3 and have started testing 17.12.4.

Wow! We have over 200 Catalyst 9200 switches in production running Cupertino version 17.9.4 or .5. For the others (running 17.9.X Cupertino and 17.3.X Amsterdam), we are scheduling updates to gradually move them all to 17.9.5.

Now, I’m thinking that I should instead migrate to Dublin version 17.12.4 (MD).

Do you know where I can find documentation on this upgrade and the reasons behind the migration (Cupertino -> Dublin)?

Thanks so much for all the information. @Leo Laohoo

Because 17.9.X oozes with memory leak.  Just about anything can/will crash the WLC, switches & routers.  I read the bug reports (updated daily) and the number of crashes, memory leaks, etc with Known Affected Version of 17.9.X makes my cry myself to sleep.

Ok, perfect, we will migrate as soon as possible.
Thanks a lot for your support @Leo Laohoo

Regards

Alessandro.

I'm having the same issue on a Cisco C9200L running 17.09.04 was the cause a software bug? and solution was to just to change the firmware or reboot?

Either reboot the switch/stack every 90 days or upgrade the firmware.
