I have an SM-ES3-24-P switch module that seems to be in a failed state.  How can I revive it?

#service-module gi 2/0 status
Service Module is Cisco GigabitEthernet2/0
Service Module supports session via TTY line 131
Service Module is failed
Service Module reset on error is disabled
Service Module heartbeat-reset is enabled
Service Module status is not available

I can't connect to it:

#service-module gi 2/0 session
Trying 192.168.148.1, 2131 ...
% Connection refused by remote host
line 131
no activation-character
no exec
transport preferred none
transport input all
stopbits 1
flowcontrol software
 #service-module gi 2/0 password-reset
Do you want to proceed with password reset process?[confirm]
Starting password reset process...
Wait for 50 secs for password reset process to complete

And password-reset seems to never complete.

I think someone installed firmware for the SM-X-ES3 module on it.  Do I have any hope?

it says Failed :

Service Module is failed

what is the IOS Code running ?   Try turnoff the router (if possible) and reseat the module and test it.

check some guide lines :

Running 15.7(3)M5 on the router.  I have reseated, reloaded, oir-stop / oir-start.  Nothing seems to work.

I have the correct firmware for the module on the router flash, I am trying to find a way to initiate Xmodem transfer, but so far I am unsuccessful.

not sure is this supported for replacement.
