hi all,

there's  a warning on using spanning tree portfast on using on hub, switches, etc but do i need to use this on a vsphere network?  that network will have multiple vm using that network or connection.

thanks for any comment you may add.

Hi,

If the switch is trunked to servers, then you can add portfast, but if it is switch to switch (trunked) then no need for portfast

Hi,

That's normal to see a warning message after you applied spanning tree portfast.

Technically, you may need portfast feature (e.g. spanning-tree portfast) to speed up the port from listening state to forwarding state when you connect a host to switch port.

For a vSphere network, you may run different vm guest with different vlan in one server host. You may need portfast feature as well. You can use "spanning-tree portfast trunk" for your vm server.

However, beware of loop when you use this command on a VM host with interface bridging.
