Stack WS-C3850-24XS-S with WS-C3850-48U-S

Hello,

I am planning an installation with fiber to several IDF locations and will be using a WS-C3850-24XS-S switch to accept the fiber at the main MDF.  Since I also need copper in the MDF, I plan to stack the WS-C3850-24XS-S with a WS-C3850-48U-S in the MDF.

Is there anything preventing me from stacking those two switches?  I plan to use two stacking cables and the power stacking cables but just want to be sure since I know at minimum that the power supplies are different.

The Cisco distributor that I'm working with hasn't been much help so just checking it out.  Thanks,

Edit:  I found another post indicating you can't stack unlike license levels so I will need a IP Base license on both switches.  I updated the part numbers to reflect this.

Hi,

Since the WS-C3850-24XS-S is IP based and WS-C3850-48U-L Lan based, you may have an issue stacking them together. Below info is for 3750x series, but it most likley apply to 3850 series.

You can however purchase a 48 port copper switch that is IP based and than should have no problem stacking them.

The Cisco Catalyst 3750-X Series Switches with LAN Base feature set can only stack with other Cisco Catalyst 3750‑X Series LAN Base switches. A mixed stack of LAN Base switch with IP Base or IP Services features set is not supported.

Thanks. I should have searched harder before posting. I found the OS issue and edited my original post.

I'm going to order the stack cables for both data and power but I'm guessing the power won't end up used since they're different power supplies correct?

Mixing different type of power supplies and stacking them together should not be an issue as long as the PSU has enough wattage to support both switches in case of a failure.
