Hi
We are trying to extend our server farm infastructure with Cisco 6509e's running IOS. Current server farm switches are 6509's with CatOS.
The switches are all connected together, with all the VLANs being trunked. Currently the catOS switches are the STP root bridges and active layer 3 interfaces for all the VLANs.
We can make the new switches the STP root bridges no problems. But when we try to make the layer interface by increasing the HSRP priority we get Duplicate IP address messages coming up.
Any help would be great!

Could you please post the configurations of the layer-3 interfaces on both switches. One VLAN will do, just to get the picture of how you have the HSRP configured.

Hi
VLAN Interace config is as (minus IP addresses):
SW1 (MSFC1):
interface VlanX
bandwidth 1000000
ip address x.x.x.x.1 255.255.255.0
ip helper-address x.x.x.x
no ip redirects
ip pim sparse-dense-mode
ip route-cache flow
ipx network XXXXXX encapsulation SAP
standby 1 ip x.x.x.3
standby 1 priority 100
standby 1 preempt
standby 1 track VlanXXX 20
SW2 (MSFC1) :
interface VlanX
bandwidth 1000000
ip address x.x.x.x.2 255.255.255.0
ip helper-address x.x.x.x
no ip redirects
ip pim sparse-dense-mode
ip route-cache flow
ipx network XXXXXX encapsulation SAP
standby 1 ip x.x.x.3
standby 1 priority 90
standby 1 preempt
standby 1 track VlanXXX 20
The configs are very similar between the switches, only difference is the IP address and standby priorities.

Where are the messages coming up?
Are you using HPOV?

Hi
What is HPOV?

HP's Network Management product. It's used in the industry fairly extensively. Oh btw OV stands for OpenView.
I keep myself updated with the thread.

Hi Anawaz
I am carrying out more testing this w/e, by creating a new test VLAN, i will try to apply an access list in the VLAN interfaces.
