It may not be included in your window version.

try downloading putty and use it instead.  It is free

i have downloaded Hyperterminal version 6 for windows 7 ....well there isnt any way to telnet by hyper terminal .. to my switch........i dont know to use putty.. well i go through it..

lets clarify something. Are you trying to connect via the console cable physically attached to the device? or ir the device somewhere on the network?

case one uses a serial connection (or usb) and is configured differently than a telnet connection (which would require knowing an address/ dns hostname)

Yes iam trying to connect the console cable physically to device....and by this i want to use telnet to to access the switch..(where the ip address of the switch is not known).. how could i access the switch. is there any way to access.it

thanks

You don't use telnet is if you are connecting by console. You use the com ports.  Only when you have set an IP address up on the switch can you use telnet. Do you not get the correct options when you fire up hyperterm ?

See this link for how to set it up -
