Switch setup out of box

I have a new cisco 2960 switch but when I connect to it using teraterm it just given me a blank screen. I can use the same laptop on other switches that were donated to us but not on any of the new ones. I tried basic setup but only the Main LED light stays constant green, none of the others

can anyone help

First, check your teratem settings.

Make sure that your speed is set to 9600 and you are set to 8 data bits, no parity bit and one stop bit (8-N-1).

When you say that this is a "new" switch - do you mean "new" from Cisco (no previous owners) or new as in donated from someone else.

Finally look at the console port  on the 2960 there is a small usb port next to it. You want the light to be on next to the console port. (otherwise it could trying to use the usb port)

Yes just verified this settings. And the switch was bought new from a company that sells Cisco switches. It's a refurbished switch

Its always possible that the switch is DOA.

Try calling the company that you got from and tell them that it doesn't seem to be working.
