Hello:
I was wondering if anyone can help with this. I have a cross connect from a ISP to our switch. The ISP is also using a switch. They are using a Foundry switch and we are using a 4948 switch. Both ports are 10/100/1000 copper ports and have speed and duplex to 100 full hard coded. There is a strange issue happening though.
For some reason, when both ports are admin up, our 4948 sees the port in the up and up state but the ISP is showing the port in the down down state. If the ISP admin downs the port, I see the port in down down state. When they bring the port back up, I see the port in up up state.
I had the colo provider check the cross connect and they are saying it is testing as a cross over. So I guess my question is why would we see the port up and the ISP see it as down. I am leaning towards the cross connect but they are sure the cross connected tested good.
Any help in this would be appreciated.

Well if you google there seem to be quite a few issues in switch-2-switch connectivity between Cisco and Foundry. All I can suggest is try auto speeds/duplex at both ends, at one end etc until you find one that works for both you and the ISP.
And to be sure, change the cable.

Frank,
Here are a few things you can do to troubleshot
1-change the hard code from 100 to auto since both ports are 10/100/1000
2-Change the cable
3-if you are using a straight through cable change it and use a crossover cable
