Telnet at layer 2

Hi Guys,

I am getting confuse about a basic question.

Is it possible for two servers connected each other via layer 2 to establish a telnet connection between them? (no routing involved, the two serves belong to the same vlan and subnet).

If yes, how? I just need the concept nothing else.

Yes it's possible (assuming they both have IPs and are within the same subnet).

When either wants to communicate with the other, they will see the destination IP is on their subnet so they will just ARP for the destination MAC and then send the telnet packet to the other host.

Totally agree with Joseph.

Condition: Its layer 2 make sure you are in the same vlan and subnet only then its possible.

Just you need to understand the concept of ARP as explained above will not rewrite the same and it works as champ.

 (ARP) is one of the major protocol in the TCP/IP suit and the purpose of Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) is to resolve an IPv4 address (32 bit Logical Address) to the physical address (48 bit MAC Address). Network Applications at the Application Layer use IPv4 Address to communicate with another device.
