Telnet question

Hi, if I configure telnet on an "management-interface fastethernet interface", will this command take precedence over the existing vty command configured on the "line vty 0 4" level? Or will the device flag an error and ask the existing vty command to be removed first?

I would expect the control-plane to take precedence. You do not necessarily need to remove the line vty commands. They enable telnet and ssh access to the router. But the control-plane commands will limit the access.

How to Ask The Cisco Community for Help

Hi balaji,
Supposed I have the following configured:

line vty 0 4
transport input ssh telent

As of now there's no problem from telnetting into the router. Then I added in the following commands for security reasons:

(config)#control-plane host
(config-cp-host)#management-interface fastethernet 0/0.31 allow telnet

Since now I have telnet configured at 2 places in the router, which will take precedence over the other?
