Does the c3750 and 4500 series have this functionality: monitor the internal temperature and shut down if temperature exceeds a
specified threshold, to prevent equipment damage from excessive heat.
My search ended where I couldn't access the right documents.
Thanks for any feedback on this issue.

Someone correct me if this is wrong, but as far as I know the shutdown temperatures (at least for the 4500's) are hard coded:
Chassis Over Temperature Threshold = 75 degrees Celsius
Chassis Critical Temperature Threshold = 95 degrees Celsius
These temps are pretty hot considering 100 C is boiling.
If you have a network monitoring system with SNMP, you can monitor the chassis temperature. That is what I have opted to do. That way you can be alerted to the problem before it gets too hot. The chassis temp is higher than room ambient so a cool room would read about 32 C or so at the chassis level.

FAN is OK
TEMPERATURE is OK
Temperature Value: 39 Degree Celsius
Temperature State: GREEN
Yellow Threshold : 58 Degree Celsius
Red Threshold : 68 Degree Celsius
