After freeing up some CAT6 to our networking closets, I decided to see if I could make a console cable through our patch pannels and see how long it can go. I tested all speeds (9600, 19200, 38400, 57600, 115200) from the networking closet that's the furthest away (about 100m) and everything worked.
I was connecting to our new 2960s (stacked) using an IOGear USB to DB9 adatpter (that I would not recommend because of BSOD). I even tested it with an old 3550 (at 9600 only) and it worked fine too.
This is a little strange from what I have read, so after I didn't see anything like this posted, I thought that I'd post it. Hope it helps.

RS-232 can be extended to 300m with proper cables.
Regards.
