Two different firmware versions on C9410R

Hi,

After replacing a faulty SUP

the new SUP which is in STANDBY mode is showing higher firmware version than the ACTIVE SUP.

My questions are:

1. does this impact the operational status on the Standby SUP? or it will work?

2. what will be the best way to make these two SUP's work with same version? Downgrade or upgrade?

Let the Active Supervisor card push the firmware down to the Standby Supervisor card by using this command:

install autoupgrade

Alternatively, to make this option persistent:

conf t
 software auto-upgrade enable
end

Note: Initially both supervisors might not be on same software version and you need to match them. For example, active supervisor could be running 16.9.5 and new/standby 16.9.4.

Hi,

I would upgrade the standby sup to match the version you have on the active sup. Once that is completed, reboot the standby sup and issue the "show redundancy" command to verify that the standby switch is in "STANDBY HOT" mode.

Both should be same version, suggest both should be higher and stable version.

So, can I make the standby as active and then use auto upgrade option? Will
this cause a down time?

if the version are different, i would not suggest to shift over active to standby and upgrade.

(looks like you taking risk).

Software auto-upgrade and more steps explain in link I share.

Do you check it?

If the command is entered, the Standby Supervisor card will reboot due to software upgrade.  Depends on what ports are connected to the Standby Supervisor card.
