Typical WS3650 Switch Port Configuration

IT-LDI
Level 1
Level 1

Where I work in IT we have multiple IDF locations and also a remote location. I was comparing the main (3) IT switch configuration's by the CLI using the show running-config. On the "Main" switch I noticed a difference in the port configuration and I'm trying to verify exactly what the meaning of the configuration. I think I know what the logic behind the code is and want to make sure I'm doing this correctly.

I have some attachments that are showing the 2 port configurations.

On the image SW1 which is the main switch and most ports are configured like this. I'm thinking that is was configured like this for the servers, switches, PC's, and no phone support. We do have a cisco phone system, along with wireless phones.

On the Image SW2, it includes all the protocols for the phones and more.

My question is, should I reconfigure anything on SW1.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you,

If you looking to have voice VLAN and QoS on the switch the config missing, you need to create it if you want to serve voice and QoS

There is no attachment.

I'm sorry, please see the attached images.

here's switch 1, the main switch

Hi,

It appears that vlan 3 is the data vlan that is configured on both switches. It could be that the servers are also in the same vlan (3) if they are connected to sw1. vlan 10 is the voice vlan.

Yes, that is correct. My question is that the switch SW1 configuration does not show anything for the Cisco phones like it does on SW2 which is the same on the rest of the switches. Also, the configuration for SW1 is only showing (2) entries, should it have more in there, or is it fine just the way it is?

Thank you,

That is what I was thinking, but I was also wondering about the initial config of the main switch with the 2 parameter entries;

switchport access vlan 3

switchport mode access

I understand the meaning behind these entries, (access ports) but was wondering if this is all that is required in a "Standard" switch configuration. Plus maybe the additions of the phone references you pointed out.

I'm am good with the information you provided for what I need.

Thank you,
