Unable to modify FEC configuration - Cisco Catalyst 9300

%PLATFORM_PM-6-MODULE_INSERTED: SFP module inserted with interface name Twe1/0/23
%PLATFORM_PM-6-DIFFERENT_MODULE_INSERTED: Warning: SFP module inserted in to the interface Twe1/0/23 differs from the previously inserted one. The port's fec configuration will be set to the default.

Did anyone experience this issue? fec configuration reset to default (auto) when using SFP module SFP-H25G-CU2M.As such, we are unable to connect to FortiGate firewall.

What is Fuil Model of the switch and Code running , if this is Multi-Gig ports - since it support different Modules - this log may be expected.

Is the issue with FEC configuration or connection issue ? Doe the Fortigate accept 25gig connection, check the compatability

Only C9300X-24Y Cat model support 2gig as per i know, is this nexus or catalyst switch please confirm

Hi. The FortiGate supports 25G - tested by looping two interfaces on the FortiGate.

The Catalyst C9300X-24Y also supports 25G - tested by looping two interfaces. It looks like a compatibility issue when interconnecting FortiGate and Catalyst C9300X-24Y. When inserting the module, the FEC configuration restores to default which is AUTO and FortiGate does not support AUTO.

May be guess CU2M cables, why not check with 10GB SFP if you any to prove its not cable compatablity with fortinet.

Hi,

Is your SFP-H25G-CU2M module Cisco sourced? If not that might be the issue.

To my knowledge the FEC negotiation is part of the port auto-negotiation protocol exchange. You MAY try to disable it ("no negotiation auto" under the Twe1/0/23) and then hard code the parameters and check if there is any improvement.

Best regards,

Antonin
