Update Nexus N9K

Hi Community,

Nexus N9K-C9508-B3-E and N9K-C93108TC-EX will be upgraded

The current version is 9.3(5) and will be upgraded to version 10.3(6).

In this case, is it necessary to make a jump in IOS between 9.3(5) to 10.3(6)? or can it be run directly from 9.3(5) to 10.3(6)?

regards

@Electronic20 hi, recommended path is as below.

9.3(5) → 9.3(13) → 10.3(6)M

use this tool to check different versions.

Is the Production device, then you need Multiple downtimes, this can be avoided if this is vPC pair and all the downlinks have dual homed connection, if not then this will be traffic disruptive upgrade.

as suggested you need to use step upgrade. make sure always take the configuration backup out of the box, and read the release notes before upgrading each version, Once upgraded to next version suggest to take backup the config again. before you upgrade to next version.

How to Ask The Cisco Community for Help

Hi @balaji.bandi

There are 2 Nexus 9Ks in production and they are on vpc.

In this case, I would first upgrade Nexus2, but will there be a time when Nexus1 and Nexus2 will have different versions, and at that time the vpc would not be established?

In any case, what would be the correct procedure for upgrading 2 Nexus 9Ks on vpc?

Hi Community,

For the update I have on the Nexus 9k, these software also appear:

Apart from the NX-OS System Software, do I need to update the other software? And what is each one for?

Another question that arises is, when I compare the jumps from an old IOS to a new IOS, I get 2 options:

1. Disruptive Upgrade

2. In-Service Software Upgrade (ISSU) Upgrade

What does each option mean and what would it be used for?
Would both options have to be updated in Nexus?

Hello,

You can also consider upgrade EPLD:

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/dcn/nx-os/nexus9000/103x/epld/nxos-n9k-epld-1034a.html

Disruptive upgrade is a usual way of upgrade. Sometimes there is an option to perform upgrade in non-disruptive way. More details by link below:

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/dcn/nx-os/nexus9000/103x/upgrade/cisco-nexus-9000-nx-os-software-upgrade-downgrade-guide-103x/m-upgrading-or-downgrading-the-cisco-nexus-9000-series-nx-os-software.html#Cisco_Concept.dita_c52831f8-8da8-4219-a2b8-...

In general, considering limitation of ISSU, it's recommended to perform disruptive upgrade.

Hi @Pavel Tarakanov

Each Nexus has 2 supervisors, should I upload the new IOS on each supervisor? And what would be the procedure to upload it to the 2 supervisors and install the new IOS?

Software need to be uploaded only in active sup

Copy the software image to the active supervisor module using a transfer protocol. You can use FTP, TFTP, SCP, or SFTP.
