Upgrading a cisco 6509 to ios

Hello,

I have cisco 6509 with 2  WS-X6K-SUP2-2GE (posted show modules below) bothe supervisor hafe 24 mb flash card

Can i upgrade this to ios if so how what do i need?

Hi Bas,

Your hardware is unsuitable. You are missing the MSFC card.

This daughter card on the supervisor board is necessary to run IOS.

The rest of the documet is a convenient howto on upgrading from CatOS to IOS.

Hello,

From the "show ver" details, I do not see any MSFC present in the Sup engines.

I do not think we will be able to run Native IOS without MSFC.

Procedure - CatOS to Native IOS conversion:

i suppose no one has one for me :-D

Try Ebay or some broker. I am pretty sure they can still provide the item for a decent price.

  The 6500's were originally a  catos box  in which they added the msfc card if you needed l3 routing .What you have is a strict L2 box and cannot be converted in it's current form as the others have implied.
