Uprading the License from IPbase to IPservices on 3750x Stack

Hi,

I need to enable the "IPservices" license on the 3750X stack. I used the below commands

3750-sw01(config)#license boot level ipservices switch 1

3750-sw01(config)#license boot level ipservices switch 2

When I do a "sh ver" I can see only switch 1 says "Next reload license Level: ipservices", not switch 2. Switch 2 specifies "Next reboot licensing Level   : ipbase".

When I session to switch 2, I can't go into config t mode to enter the above commands. I am not quite sure why config t mode fails.

3750-sw01-2#conf t
                    ^
% Invalid input detected at '^' marker.

Thanks

Nachi

On the second switch in "Index 2", you see that the EULA is not accepted, which means that the evaluation license for ip services is not selected yet. Only when thats enabled, the show version would say that on its next reboot ipservices will be selected.

Do you get a "End User License Agreement" (EULA) when you type "license boot level ipservices switch 2"?

If you do then it actually displays a very long message, and in the end it asks you if you would like to ACCEPT? (yes/[no]): --- if you choose "yes", it means that you have accepted the EULA, and then it displays a message saying on the next reboot ipservices will be used.
If it doesn't display anything after you type "license boot level ipservices switch 2", i would suggest you to unstack the member switches and upgrade the license to ipservices individually and the stack the switches and see if it works.

Only the show and debug commands are available in a CLI session to a specific stack member. You cannot go to the config mode of the member switch when the switch is in the stack.

Thanks.

So how can i upgrade the licenses on the stack member. The command excuted on the stack masterdoes not make changes on the stack member ?

Can you paste the output for "show license detail switch 1" and "show license detail switch 2"...

Hi,

Reload the switch after you upgrade the license level.

See the below for your information....

Mismatched or incompatible software license levels might prevent a Catalyst 3750E switch from joining a stack. These license levels are also called sets, or feature sets:

IP base (ipbase)

IP services (ipservices)

Advanced IP services (advanced ipservices)

Each member switch must have a compatible feature license. Otherwise, you need to upgrade the license level and then reload the switch.

To review the installed license in a member switch, enter these commands. In this example, member switches have the same license level:

Stack-1# show license all switch 1
License Store: Primary License Storage

StoreIndex: 0   Feature: advipservices

        License Type: Permanent

        License State: Active, In Use

Stack-1# show license all switch 2

License Store: Primary License Storage

StoreIndex: 0   Feature: advipservices

        License Type: Permanent

        License State: Active, In Use

A switch can have up to three installed licenses, but only one is active. Use the show version user EXEC command to see the active licenses. This example is part of the output message for one stack:

Stack-1# show version

Switch 03

---------

License Level                   : advipservices

License Type                    : Permanent

Next reboot licensing Level     : advipservices

Switch 04

---------

License Level                   : advipservices

License Type                    : Permanent

Next reboot licensing Level     : advipservices

Now I need to upgrade the license from "Ipbase" to "ipservice". So as i mentioned before i used the commands "license boot level ipservices switch 1" and "license boot level ipservices switch 2" on the master switch. After executing the commands i did "sh ver". The master switch specifies "Next reload license Level: ipservices" and the stack member specifies "Next reboot licensing Level: ipbase".I thought both switch should specify "Next relaod license level:ipservices".

Thanks

Regarding to the command "license boot level ipservices", will it be extra charge to the client? Sorry,I'm newbie for network field. If yes, how should i close it? "no license boot level" ?

Please use the below command on the switch to accept EULA:

license right-to-use activate license-level acceptEULA

Step 1 : Log in to the switch by using the console port, the Ethernet management port, or a Telnet session.

Step 2 : copy license file onto the flash: device from the tftp server.

Step 3 : Install the license on the switch with the following command in the privilege mode:

                license install file-sys:file-sys//lic-location

Once the license gets installed a log message similar to this should be seen:               "%IOS_LICENSE_IMAGE_APPLICATION-6-LICENSE_LEVEL: Next reboot level = ipservices and License = ipservices"

Step 4 : The license is installed once you have accepted the EULA, but to enable the feature set after installing the license, you need to reload the device. Before reloading the device, the next license boot level of the switch has to be changed, use the following command to do so:

(In config mode) - license boot level license-level [switch switch-number]

On Stack use:

3750-sw01(config)#license boot level ipservices switch 1

3750-sw01(config)#license boot level ipservices switch 2

If the show license all command displays the license as "Active, Not in Use, EULA not accepted," you can use the license boot level command to enable the license and accept the end-user license agreement (EULA).

Step 5 : Verify if the new license was installed:

- show version | in License|license

Step 6 : check if the EULA is accepted or not from the command

show license detail

Step 7: to check the allowed features on the switch

show license feature

Yes there is an extra charge for using IP services. you can now give the IP base

For the basic differences between them:

https://supportforums.cisco.com/document/17541/what-difference-between-ip-base-image-and-ip-services-image

Then the licensing also depends upon the model of the switch.

On the second switch in "Index 2", you see that the EULA is not accepted, which means that the evaluation license for ip services is not selected yet. Only when thats enabled, the show version would say that on its next reboot ipservices will be selected.

Thanks Ranraju.

I am not sure why the EULA is not accepted. The devices are brand new and i received them with the license file. I think i need to contact cisco.
